Dr. Petra Krause, beloved friend and colleague, passed away tragically on May 9, 2008 at the age of 47 years. Petra resided in South Shields, U.K. with her fiancé, Ian Welsh, and is survived by her mother, Ilse, sisters Bertie and Ute, and brother Torsten.

Petra completed her University and Postgraduate education in Hamburg, Germany, earning her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the Institute for Inorganic and Applied Chemistry at the University of Hamburg.   Petra's career involved positions as an applications chemist, research scientist and product manager.  Over the last three years she worked with CETAC Technologies as Business Development Manager for the European office and Project Manager for the Laser Ablation product line.  Petra participated in the scientific community over the last twenty years through contribution of conference papers, attendance at numerous exhibitions, and organization of workshops, seminars and customer training.

Petra was an exceptional friend whose laughter and spirit of adventure will be deeply missed by all who had the fortune to know her.  Petra was planning to participate in a run in June to support Jane's Appeal, a fund-raising organization for children's and cancer charities.
